I’ve thought really hard about this, but I can’t remember when I last got mentioned along with Einstein. In fact, I have to admit it, I think this is a first.
A few days ago, I wrote about why it makes sense to seek your customers’ opinions, and then trust what they say.
This is what I just received from one of my past customers.
Marketing brings clarity: to the strategy team, to the product management team, to the development team, to the sales force, and last, but by no means least, to the market. No matter how good a product is, unless its value proposition can be articulated to and, equally importantly, understood by each of those constituencies, its benefits will never be realised.
Matthew is a first class facilitator of the distillation process, helping to clarify, articulate, and then focus on the essence of what it is that we are trying to do in order to execute.
As Einstein said: Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction.
Matthew definitely moves in the opposite direction.
Gulp. Me and Einstein. Contrary motion feels good. Of course, it’s not enough just to listen to your customers. You have to judiciously act on what they tell you.
