My Charities
I’m grateful that I’ve had good fortune, lots of support and friendship, and I think I need to ‘give something back’. I support three charities.
Ashgate Hospice
My wife of thirty years, Philippa Kyle, was cared for at Ashgate Hospice for less than twelve hours before she died there on 20 November 2009, but their care was very important to her. The tranquil atmosphere and wonderful staff enabled Fi’s last hours to be dignified and peaceful.
Ashgate Hospice is an independent registered charity covering North Derbyshire, providing specialist palliative care to terminally ill adults and their families. Care is provided on the ward, in the day centre, out patient suite and at home.
All services are provided free of charge, and £1.8 million must be raised each year from voluntary giving.
I’m raising funds to support the work of the hospice. Can you help? Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
Prince’s Trust
This UK charity helps young people overcome barriers and get their lives working.
Through practical support – including training, mentoring and financial assistance – the charity helps 14-30 year olds realise their potential and transform their lives.
The Prince’s Trust focuses their efforts on those who’ve struggled at school, been in care, been in trouble with the law, or are long-term unemployed.
I’m a volunteer in the Prince’s Trust’s Business Mentor programme.
Combs Village Hall Trust
This charity supports community activity in the village of Combs by managing the village hall – which houses Combs Infant School during the day – and driving associated projects of benefit to villagers. I served as treasurer for a year. I now run the trust’s website.
