My Approach
Each client has unique requirements, but my projects tend to have two phases: an initial project which is often followed by an ongoing engagement.
Initial Project
This is usually a planning project, either focused solely on marketing, or it’s a wider business planning exercise that looks at all aspects of the business.
I use techniques I’ve developed over the years to take the client through a structured process that allows them to evaluate where they currently are, where they could get to, and then make choices about the strategic direction they should head in.
These planning projects can be very short, or last several weeks where the client’s situation is complex and there’s a number of people to involve in the planning process.
Ongoing Engagement
Once a plan exists, many clients ask me to help them execute it.
For some clients, I’m their outsourced marketing director, and I manage the execution of the marketing plan. Where the marketing resources that are needed aren’t available in the client, I manage external agencies (public relations, web design, creative design, etc.) on their behalf. I have a network of business partners who offer complementary services that can be brought into the project if appropriate.
Other clients use me as they would a non-executive director. Although my chief expertise is marketing, clients ask for advice on many other areas in which I can help, including recruitment and management of staff, development of sales skills, creation of alliances with other companies, and lots more. We meet regularly, discuss current issues, and find ways of keeping them on track towards their goals.
